Role
Take Control of Critical Work Activities and Help Deliver Safe, Compliant Operations
Our Client has a requirement for a Permit & Isolation Coordinator, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Barrow-in-Furness.
Role Purpose:
- Manage Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) processes to ensure work activities are safely planned, authorised, and executed.
- Coordinate and govern permit-to-work and isolation processes in line with company procedures and Operating Integrity (OI) requirements.
- Chair daily SSoW meetings, including verification and SIMOPS reviews, ensuring alignment of activities and effective risk communication.
- Act as Issuing Authority, ensuring permits are robust, risk assessed, and correctly implemented.
- Prepare, control, and assure Isolation Control Certificates (ICCs).
- Audit and review isolation integrity to prevent loss of containment events.
- Support the Control of Work Supervisor in delivering Operating Integrity requirements.
- Maintain ownership of work control system governance, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and effective housekeeping.
- Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of work activities across site operations.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day SSoW processes and chair daily verification and SIMOPS meetings.
- Ensure alignment of work activities and risk controls.
- Act as Issuing Authority for permits and ensure compliance with permit procedures.
- Maintain high standards of permit quality and control.
- Prepare and manage Isolation Control Certificates (ICCs).
- Conduct LTI audits and isolation reviews.
- Ensure integrity of isolations and prevention of loss of containment.
- Support the Control of Work Supervisor in the delivery of Operating Integrity requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Operating Integrity standards and procedures.
- Contribute to assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate simultaneous operations to minimise risk.
- Ensure clear communication of hazards and controls.
- Intervene where conflicts or risks are identified.
- Maintain ownership of work control system accuracy and housekeeping.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with system requirements.
- Maintain accurate and reliable work control records.
- Ensure adherence to Safe Systems of Work and company procedures.
- Identify and address non-compliance issues.
- Support audits and assurance activities.
- Drive improvements in Control of Work and permit processes.
- Promote operational discipline and best practice.
- Support lessons learned activities and system enhancements.
- Undertake any other associated duties as reasonably required.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Demonstrable record in Health, Safety and Environment management and compliance with relevant legislation.
- IOSH and other relevant competencies appropriate to the role.
- Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process operations or maintenance.
- Strong understanding of process safety, operational hazards, and associated procedures.
- Proven ability to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and positive change across a diverse workforce.
- Experience coaching and supporting individuals through operational change.
- Practical experience and understanding of terminal process plant operations and technologies.
- Technical knowledge and experience of Permit to Work systems.
- BTEC Ordinary Certificate or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- Engineering Apprenticeship with associated experience and qualifications (ONC or equivalent minimum) desirable.
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent desirable.
